Description

Spike Handy are 2 girls and 4 guys. A fun loving party band that delivers a high quality and entertaining show. Music ranges from Beyonce to Jackson Five, from the Bee Gees to Robbie Williams.

For several years Spike Handy has been playing at corporate and private functions, clubs and festivals. With audiences from just hundreds to many thousands all over the UK and abroad. Very popular at corporate events, holiday parks, military bases, universities, aboard ferries, weddings and clubs and have played at almost all the major hotel groups. With a host of excellent testimonials to their name they are a six piece 100% live band that really entertains.

The Costumes Costumes are from the Austin Powers and James Bond movies. The band can use more conventional stagewear on request. Based in the North West of England, they perform all over the UK as well as abroad.
They are fully self-contained and require only standard power points. The Light Show they provide can include smoke (specially fire alarm compatible!) – all optional to suit the venue and the audience.

History All of the guys and gals in the band have been playing in working bands for many years. Dave (“Fat B*stard/Charlie”) has been playing in bands since the 60’s, and appeared on Granada TV with his band in 1968. He also taught the younger ones all he knows – which took about 10 minutes. Lynn (“Harmony”) has been playing the bass since she was 9 years old and appeared on National TV in New Faces, along with her brother Dave (“Austin”) in the same band. Dave was also an original member of the boyband Our Kid who had a number 2 hit in 1976 with “You Just Might See Me Cry” and both Lynn and Dave have been in bands with Ian McNabb (Icicle Works) and Chris Sharrock (now Robbie Williams’ drummer). Matt (“James Bond”) was drummer in the resident band at Liverpool’s Cavern Club for 6 years. He’s played percussion in War of the Worlds with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and has played in bands for Michelle Gayle and Rose Royce, as well as supporting acts such as the Average White Band, Wishbone Ash and Atomic Kitten. He is also one the three songwriters of the Liverpool 08 new anthem for Capital of Culture. Pete (“Dr Evil”) has been playing keyboards since he was 7 and has a BTEC in Performing Arts. He played in the Abba Mania theatre show at venues such as the Liverpool Empire and Manchester Opera House. Amanda (“Melody”) has been singing in bands for over 15 years, and has toured Europe as a professional singer. She’s sung on Sky TV and been on Des O’Connor’s Pot of Gold talent show.

Spike Handy members carry full Public Liability Insurance from the Musician’s Union. All electrical equipment is PAT certified. Copy certificates available on request.

Spike Handy are a perfect band for your James Bond party or 007 themed event. The theme songs from the James Bond movies are magnificent and memorable, and great to set the mood when played throughout dinner for example. But, they don’t provide an ideal choice for a band to play if you are looking for a dancing/party atmosphere later. Our broad Spy Movie approach – covering James Bond, Austin Powers, Mission Impossible and Charlie’s Angels – fits in perfectly, along with more specific things such as opening with Paul McCartney’s Live & Let Die, an up tempo version of the 007 guitar riff theme.

Can you tell the difference in costumes between the evil villain Blofeld in You Only Live Twice and Dr Evil from Austin Powers? – complete with identical cat!

To make your James Bond event go with a bang – book Spike Handy.
