Donna
Windsor was
originally played by
Sophie Jeffrey, who
arrived with the
rest of the Windosr
clan from Essex on
10th August, 1993.
Verity Rushworth
took on the role on
25th February, 1998,
and since her
marriage to Marlon
Dingle, her name has
now changed to Donna
Windsor-Dingle.
Donna was very young
when her family
moved to Emmerdale.
She learnt quickly
that life wasn't
going to be the
peaceful existence
her father Vic
promised. Donna was
horrified when
mother Viv had an
affair with family
friend Terry Woods
and left her dad,
taking Donna with
her. Her relief when
they got back
together was only
short-lived as Vic
was killed by Billy
Hopwood when he
burgled the post
office on Christmas
Day 1998.
Character
reference
Poor Donna isn’t the
sharpest tool in the
box but has tried to
improve her life
after years helping
her mother in the
cafe and post
office. Recently she
trained to be a
Special Constable,
but she’s now part
of the loutish
Dingle family so her
work will be
compromised in the
future.
Love life
In 2001 Donna
started a
relationship with
Marc Reynolds but
felt pressured into
having sex. Their
romance came to a
halt when Marc was
sentenced to a year
in a young
offenders’ institute
after a hit-and-run
accident killed a
local woman. Donna
turned her attention
to village bad boy
Robert Sugden. He
just used her for
sex too, but Donna
was convinced he was
serious, until he
dumped her for
Elaine Marsden. When
Elaine left town,
Robert got back
together with Donna
but was pursuing his
brother Andy's
girlfriend Katie -
one of Donna's best
friends. When the
affair was revealed
a few months after
Katie's wedding to
Andy, Donna was left
betrayed. She tried
it on with recent
widower Marlon
Dingle but was
rebuffed, so she got
together with Danny
Daggert instead but
relationship didn't
last long.
Having finally got
over the death of
wife Tricia, Marlon
fell in love with
Donna, who accepted
his marriage
proposal. Their
happiness was
stifled by Donna's
mum Viv, who
insisted they had a
double wedding with
her and Bob. Donna
struck up a close
friendship with Max
King, who she
flirted with but he
was killed in a car
crash leaving Donna
devastated. On their
big day, she
confessed to her
horrified groom that
she had feelings for
Max. Marlon forgave
Donna and they still
married and lived at
Marlon's, with Paddy
and Toni. However,
Donna had a run-in
with the Dingle
family when she
reported Shadrach to
the police for
theft. Called up
before the Dingle
court, Donna defied
Zak and Lisa and
revealed she planned
to become a police
officer.
More recently, Donna
and Marlon have
tried to adopt
Lillith Dingle’s
four children. But
the couple need a
house and opted to
build one by the
side of the Dingle
homestead. While it
gets built, Donna
and Marlon lived in
a caravan. Cold and
uncomfortable, Donna
has moved back in
with Viv and Bob
while her marriage
faces a crisis. Can
the couple pull
through?
Memorable
moments
Donna agreed to
become a surrogate
mother for Viv in
return for money to
place a deposit on a
house.
What next
for Donna?
Now a Special
Constable, Donna is
sure to face a
dilemma when it
comes to her family
and the law. The
kids are the most
important thing on
her mind at the
moment, but will it
be at the expense of
her marriage?
