Character reference
Steve was bored at school and soon dropped out to wheel and deal. In 1994 he took over Mike Baldwin’s print business and made a success of the company. But Steve often fell foul of the law and spent two short spells in prison. He now runs Streetcars and has become a business partner at the Rovers with mum Liz.
Love life
Where do you start? Steve married one of his first loves, Vicky Arden, who helped finance the print business. But the marriage ended when Steve was caught out by the police and blamed Vicky. He then fell madly in love with hairdresser Fiona Middleton but that ended when he slept with her best friend Maxine Heavy. Next, he married factory girl Karen Phillips for a bet.
Tracy Barlow fluttered her eyelashes at him and he was soon in bed with her too. She fell pregnant, though, and had a daughter, Amy. Steve went along with Tracy’s plans to sell the baby to the Croppers as he didn’t want wife Karen to find out about his infidelity, but she learnt the shocking truth on their second wedding day. Eventually she forgave him, but Tracy’s meddling and Karen’s hot temper all proved too much for Steve and he ended his marriage on Christmas Day, 2004.
However, more trouble lay ahead when he fell for Ronnie Clayton, a local gangster’s estranged wife. In 2006, she tried to frame him for a hit-and-run, but justice prevailed. And there’s more… Steve had a one-night stand with his best mate’s girl Kelly Crabtree, resulting in the end of his friendship with friend and Streetcars business partner Lloyd Mullaney.
The latest girl to catch his eye is gorgeous barmaid Michelle Connor, but the road to happiness is littered with potholes...
Memorable scene
When Tracy sabotaged his second wedding to Karen and announced that he was the father of her child in front of all the Street residents.
What next?
He’s fast become a major player as a Weatherfield businessman, owning Streetcars and the Rovers. Could he be the next Mike Baldwin?
