First arrived
2004. Eldest son of Danny Baldwin, Jamie brought trouble when he came to visit his dad and stepmum Frankie in Weatherfield. After being furious that his dad's best mate Vinnie had had an affair with Frankie, Jamie beat him up and was wanted by the police in connection with the incident. Although he was touched by Jamie's actions, Danny knew that Vinnie would just love to cause trouble for the family. He eventually got his former friend to drop the assault charges against Jamie by paying him off – meaning Frankie's dreams of a big house were left in tatters. Although she was furious with Jamie, Frankie was glad to have him living with them.
Character reference
It’s hard to believe Jamie is part of the Baldwin clan so different is he from his relatives. Jamie is loyal and caring in both his relationships and his friendships. However, his naivety and gullibility means he’s often the last to know anything that’s going on.
Love life
Jamie started dating Leanne Battersby as soon as he arrived on the Street, much to Frankie’s disapproval. After proposing to Leanne, Jamie was heartbroken to discover she'd been sleeping with his father. He turned his back on both his dad and Leanne and threw himself into life with Frankie and Carol. But his mum wasn't going to make him feel better. It was her constant insinuations that made Jamie start thinking he might fancy Frankie, until he snapped out of it and he threw Carol out of his life for good.
Jamie began dating barmaid Violet Wilson after she broke up with cheating Jason Grimshaw. He spent much of his time with her and best mate Sean Tully, who soon developed feelings for Jamie. When Jamie started behaving oddly, Violet was convinced her boyfriend was having an affair with Sean, but in fact, he’d fallen in love with stepmum Frankie.
He opened his heart to Frankie who was shocked, but over time she too developed feelings. She tried to fight them off by moving back in with Danny, but while the factory boss was planning their second wedding, Frankie fell into bed with Jamie. The two prepared to leave the Street and head to Spain, but Frankie got cold feet at the last minute and left without him.
Jamie's started dating gorgeous Rovers barmaid Violet Wilson. Discovering Mike Baldwin was his grandfather was a pleasant shock for Jamie and they formed a close bond. It broke Jamie's heart to see Mike succumb to Alzheimer's. Jamie was sickened to see Danny go all out to ensure he inherited all of Mike's wealth. After Mike died, Jamie joined forces with Adam Barlow and was determined to bring Danny down. But he would have to wait as the conniving businessman had everything sewn up. Jamie was disgusted when Leanne tried to engineer a truce between him and Danny and shunned his father again. Even when Danny and Leanne finally split Jamie was in no mood to forgive. He was disgusted to discover his old man had hidden Mike's final will and robbed Adam of his inheritance. Jamie threw himself into his new family – by spending all his time with best mate Sean and girlfriend Violet. Violet was ecstatic when Jamie agreed she could move in with him but the new arrangement wasn't to last. While she was convinced he'd fallen in love with Sean and was struggling with his sexuality, Jamie had in fact started having strong feelings for Frankie. He split with Violet and faced up to the reality – he was in love with his step mother. He opened his heart to Frankie who was shocked but also had feelings for Jamie. But she tried to fight them off by moving back in with Danny and resurrect their relationship. But while Danny was planning their second marriage, Frankie fell into bed with Jamie.
When Frankie left Weatherfield, Jamie and Violet made up and became friends. Violet is now pregnant with Sean's baby and Jamie is currently offering a very supportive shoulder to cry on for Violet. The two of them appear to becoming close once again.
