DOB: 28 January
1986
Marital status:
Estranged from wife Katie, living
with Jo Stiles
Address: Butler’s
Farm
Occupation: Farmer
First arrived
4th July 1996. With his criminal
father, Billy Hopwood, locked up in
prison, Andy lived with his
grandmother. When she couldn’t cope,
he was temporarily looked after by
Jack and Sarah Sugden. When his
grandmother died, he ran away from
the foster family and hid out in the
Sugdens’ barn. He was delighted when
Jack and Sarah officially fostered
him.
Character reference
Andy was an inner-city kid and a
teenage tearaway, but he calmed down
after Jack and Sarah adopted him and
he had a sense of belonging. He can
still be quick to anger but he’s
settled down and has followed Jack’s
lead by becoming a farmer.
Love life
Married Katie in 2004 but it soon
emerged that she had been having an
affair with his brother Robert. In a
rage, he tried to kill them, but
shot Jack by mistake and almost
killed him.
He
started seeing schoolgirl Debbie
Dingle, to the fury of her father
Cain, who beat him up. In 2005 he
finished with Debbie who was,
unknown to him, pregnant with his
child.
He was
stunned when he found out he had a
daughter, Sarah. Katie returned to
Emmerdale when she and her father
were in a serious car accident. Her
father was killed, but Katie
survived and Andy kept a bedside
vigil.
Reunited, the two returned to
Butler’s Farm and Katie even helped
bring up Andy’s child Sarah. But
lurking in the background was lusty
lodger Jo Stiles who played on
Andy’s insecurities towards Katie
and seduced him.
Having
formed a close bond over their
troubled childhoods, Andy left Katie
and is now living at Butler’s with
Jo and baby Sarah.
Memorable scene
When Andy torched the barn when he
realised the insurance money would
alleviate Jack’s financial problems.
Unfortunately his adoptive mother
Sarah was in the barn and was
killed.
What next for Andy?
Andy has just unwisely told Jo that
he was responsible for Sarah’s
death. With Jo’s mouth as big as the
Yorkshire Dales themselves, it’s
only a matter of time before his
step-sister Victoria, daughter to
Sarah, finds out that her brother
killed her mother.
