Love life
When he arrived in the Street his former girlfriend Amy Goskirk turned up claiming Dev had vowed to marry her. He wanted to start afresh though and turned his back on Amy, despite her best efforts, which included a fake pregnancy and a pretend suicide attempt.

Dev soon became involved with barmaid Geena Gregory, who he nearly married. However, her mother didn’t approve which was hardly surprising when he had a one-night stand with shopworker Deirdre Rachid. He swiftly moved on to Deirdre’s daughter Tracy, but after admitting to her step-brother that she wasn’t marriage material, the barmy Barlow flipped and was soon dumped.

Meanwhile, Dev’s feelings for friend Sunita developed and, on his return from a trip to India, he proposed. Unfortunately, that evening her ex-flame Ciaran McCarthy returned from the Navy and made another play for her heart. Confused, Sunita went for Ciaran and left Dev heartbroken.

However, when Dev met solicitor Maya Sharma his memories of Sunita were temporarily banished. Sunita, though, fell ill with a brain tumour and Dev realised which woman he really loved and broke things off with Maya. She soon became ‘Mad Maya’ and tried to kill them both. Sunita has since left Dev after it was revealed he’d fathered a number of children whose mothers worked in his seven shops.

Memorable scene
Dev was tied up by ‘Mad Maya’ who sought revenge for being ditched by setting fire to all his shops and trying to run over him and new love Sunita.

What next?
Dev has a habit of getting involved with unsuitable women, and there’s likely to be many more.
