Lionel Vinyl - Celebrity Disc Jockey - Biography
Lionel Vinyl was born in Brooklyn, New York 4th July, 1950. At the age of 10, Lionel and his family moved to Manhattan. This is where Lionel was influenced by the sweet sounds of soul. Later on in the '60s, still in his teens, Lionel helped the growth of Motown music, becoming close friends with The Jacksons, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye and many more. Here, Lionel can be seen with his close friends, The Jacksons way back in the summer of '69. You know the moonwalking that Michael does? Well Lionel taught him how to do that.
 

By 1970 he became a DJ performing at all the major nightclubs in New York. Through the '70s Lionel Vinyl established himself as the most famous DJ in the USA.

Lionel's Lower Manhattan
By 1975 he had opened his own club in Manhattan, the world famous "Lionel's" where Saturday Night Fever was filmed, which he in part choreographed and taught John Travolta to D.I.S.C.O. All the disco stars were regular clients, from Kool & The Gang to Gloria Gaynor, where they all came as personal friends of Lionel Vinyl. It was well known by everyone in the industry that Lionel Vinyl was the KING OF DISCO.

In 1979 Lionel released his first record by popular demand, followed by a major recording deal with RCA. This led to number one singles in America, and as far as China and Singapore. To this day Lionel's albums still outsell Michael Jackson and the Nolans in Japan.

Through the '80s Lionel's career exploded on to US television. He presented music shows, talk shows, game shows and appeared in a string of hit films, making him a multi-millionaire. Lionel's original and innovative shows spawned a whole generation of similar shows. Jerry Springer, Wheel of Fortune, Fame, Knight Rider, Magnum to name but a few.

 

But seriously folks - He's back form the '70's 80's and 90's and today is know for being the ultimate cheezy DJ from the USA, he's educating the UK in Disco at venues in Blackpool, the North West and beyond. He also had his own radio show every Sunday on Wave FM.
