Hurricane
Floyd
- Biography
Hurricane
Floyd was formerly known as KING JONESY COOL in
the United States where he lived in Long Branch,
New Jersey. Hurricane has performed as an
amateur for five years as a “Rapper” he also
studied Choral singing for three years at Long
Branch High School under the direction of Ms
Stacey Miller. After playing amateur venues such
as Ishka-bials – West End, The Peppermint Lounge
– Newark, Latin Quarter – New York and Funhouse
– New York, he was asked to record a
professional song in a “real” studio.
Shortly after recording “I’m not afraid of the
dark” for Youngstar Productions, he signed a
recording contract with them and began to write
his own songs and was soon asked to write for
others. He also performed at many small clubs
promoting his new single “Just Rapping”.
After several months of disappointing
negotiations with larger companies, Youngstar
Productions ceased to exist, and therefore so
did his contract.
In 1998 he decided he would sell everything he
owned and move to the United Kingdom and record
the songs he had written over his extended
“retirement”. Since then, he has made moderate
progress in promoting himself as a professional
entertainer.
As a solo entertainer, he has enjoyed working on
a semi-regular basis in such venues as Vogue
Nightclub in Sheffield (attendance 3000), The
Underground in Leeds (invited back for 19
weeks), Leisure Lounge in London and Elbow Room
in Leeds.
With various groups, he has performed in the
United Kingdom and Europe at Haven Holiday Parks
(64) Club Zanzibar (20), Chicago Rock Café,
Tower Ballroom in Birmingham and venues in
Scotland, Southern Ireland and The Netherlands,
as well as several performances aboard cruise
ships.
