U2 - Achtung Baby
Achtung
Baby are astoundingly realistic in everything
they do, from the way they present themselves
right through to capturing that unique all
important U2 sound. In an exclusive interview to
MTV, the real Bono was asked after hearing them
how he feels about U2 tribute Achtung Baby and
he replied "I'm quite flattered by what they
do".
They have appeared on countless TV programs both
as individual artists and as Achtung Baby and
received high acclaim from everyone that seen
and heard them.
Achtung Baby were formed in 1993 and the current
band members are, Andy as Bono, Richard as Edge,
Pete as Larry and Dave as Adam.
Andy
(Vocalist) Appears on "Stars in their eyes" as
Bono singing "With or Without You". Andy wins
his heat and appears in the 1995 live final and
also the 1995 Christmas special.
In 1996 the band supports Irish band "Aslan" at
the point depot in Dublin. This was the biggest
audience Achtung Baby have ever played to…8000
Irish folk
In 1997 the band appears in numerous magazines
including NME, Heat and Now, amongst others and
is portrayed as one of the worlds leading
tribute acts.
1998 was a big year for the band as they
embarked on a huge tribute tour to the Middle
East. After several sell out shows in Bahrain
the band returned to Europe and played in
Belgium, Portugal and finally Holland with a
sell-out show at the UZ in Rotterdam.
Achtung
baby return to the UK and are asked to support
"Echo and the Bunnymen" for their comeback show
in London. Eddie Izzard and Denise Van Outen are
present.
To round off this amazing year the band support
The Lightening Seeds at Wimbledon University and
also Shed 7 at Cheltenham University.
1999 sees the band spending lots of time in
Ireland with shows in Galway, Cork, Belfast and
the Olympia Theatre in Dublin.
In Belfast Achtung Baby play a sell out show to
2000 fans with Samantha Mumba on the bill.
The band makes an appearance on The John Daly
show on Irish TV to promote the Belfast show.
They perform Pride.
Achtung Baby make their Sky TV debut with an
exclusive interview on the 11th Hour Show. They
perform two songs, Desire and Angel of Harlem.
Finally
in 1999 the band is approached by an Irish film
company to record I Still Haven't Found What I'm
Looking For, for a short film called Buskers. U2
themselves listened to the recording and gave
the film company permission to use it. The Film
won best short film award at the Aberdeen film
festival and has been broadcast on CH4 and Sky
Moviemax.
In early 2000 the band receives the greatest
compliment possible. In an exclusive interview
to MTV, Bono is asked how he feels about U2
tribute Achtung Baby. He replies "I'm quite
flattered by what they do".
Also in 2000 the band appear on BBC1's Battle of
the Tribute Bands", a one hour TV Special.
Achtung Baby are chosen from 200 tributes to
appear with 5 other acts in the search for the
UK's finest. The show hosted by Terry Wogan and
Ulrika Jonsson. The band is voted the best
sound-alike tribute band in the UK.
Finally in 2001, Andy (Vocalist) appears on the
Pulp single, "Bad Cover Version" as Bono. The
single is a send up of the 1985 band aid song,
Do They Know It's Christmas. The single and DVD
Video is available at HMV stores.
And so we come to the present day and Achtung
Baby continue to play sell-out shows across the
UK. The band would like to take this opportunity
to thank everyone from family, friends, agents,
venue owners and mostly you The Fans for what
has been the most amazing adventure. Long may it
continue.
