First arrived 
30th November, 1998, when he turned up at Deirdre Rachid’s flat to see his mum Jackie who Deirdre had met while in prison. Tyrone started earning cash by helping out Kevin Webster at the garage. When he found out that Curly’s house at No7 was empty, Tyrone broke in and he and his mum started squatting when Deirdre threw them both out of her flat.

Character reference  
Tyrone comes from a broken home and difficult background. Both of his parents were in and out of prison so he was always put into care, which he subsequently ran away from all the time. After being caught smoking at school he was suspended so burnt the school down. Since moving in with Jack and Vera he’s calmed down a great deal and has turned into the son Jack and Vera wished they’d had.

Love life 
When he first moved on to Coronation Street, Tyrone had a crush on Toyah Battersby but she wasn’t interested in him. It was his greyhound Monica who proved the catalyst in finding Tyrone’s first love with kennel maid Maria Sutherland. Both of them were devoted to dogs and Tyrone proposed to Maria at the top of Blackpool Tower in 2000.

While engaged to Maria, Tyrone had a fling with Fiz Brown and by the time he’d come to his senses, Maria had already moved on to someone else. But on Christmas Day 2003, Fiz and Tyrone kissed again, he realised he still had feelings for her and launched a campaign to win her back, fighting off her boyfriend Kirk. Sadly for Tyrone, Kirk won Fiz back but he then decided to try to win back Maria, which he duly did.

Tyrone finally had to let Maria go when he realised that she’d never love him as much as he loved her. His broken heart was mended with some help from ex-kennel maid and baker’s daughter Molly Compton. Molly moved into Jack and Vera’s house to live with Tyrone and the couple are currently looking for a place of their own.

When Tyrone had his chest and back waxed by Maria in the hair salon.

What next for Tyrone? 
How will Tyrone cope now that Jack and Vera’s grandson Paul Clayton has turned up on the Street and taken over his position in their hearts? Will his parents’ prison past catch up with him one of these days and drag him back into trouble?

About the actor 
Alan Halsall appeared in Children’s Ward, Hetty Wainthrop, Heartbeat and Queer As Folk before appearing as Tyrone in Coronation Street.

Alan is currently dating his former Corrie co-star Lucy-Jo Hudson, who played killer Katy Harris.
